When Lars Hansen sold Charles Ingalls his land, this barn was on the property.  Christmas presents were hidden and many things were built in this barn, including cradles for new babys, repaired wagon wheels, signs, saddles and all kinds of carpentry. This was also a place of started fires, accidents, and private conversations. Lives were started and ended here.  Many events took place inside this barn, making this building the center for much activity.  Barns were very important structures during this time and this barn served the Ingalls family well.

Both Schoolhouse during the week and the Church on Sundays, this was indeed an important building for the Walnut Gove community.  This building even served as a hospital during some very hard times.  Thanks to Tinker Jones, the bell was added and the community came together once again after being divided.  Books would be found on the ground, waiting for the students to play on the see saw, or have a game of baseball.  We can just see Ms. Beadle ringing the school bell announcing class was about to start!
